CLAREMONT >> Two men — one from Pomona, the other from Ontario — were killed in a crash involving a tractor-trailer along the eastbound 10 Freeway near Indian Hill Boulevard Wednesday morning, officials said.
Shortly before 4 a.m., a Pomona man was driving a 2015 Kia Optima east at a high rate of speed when the vehicle lost control, sending into the back of a tractor-trailer which was parked on the right shoulder of the freeway, according to a California Highway Patrol release. The impact pushed the tractor trailer into the right shoulder wall, officials said.
The Kia’s driver and his passenger, a man from Ontario, were pronounced dead at the scene.
A SigAlert was issued for the area as rescue crews worked to pull the wedged Optima out from under the larger vehicle.
The names of the men were withheld, pending family notifications.
An initial investigation could not rule out drugs or alcohol as a possible contributing factor to the fatal crash.
