UPLAND >> A man killed in a car crash Sunday afternoon on Benson Avenue has been identified as Andrew Medina, 22, of Upland, according to the San Bernardino County Coroner’s website.

Shortly after 1 p.m., Upland police officers and paramedics were called to a crash at Benson Avenue and Mountain Shadow Drive where a driver, later identified as Medina, had lost control of his Dodge and smashed into a block wall, officials said.

Medina was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators determined Medina was driving north on Benson Avenue at a high rate of speed when he lost control, sending him into the southbound lanes, according to authorities. The Dodge then hit the block wall.

Police planned to shut down a portion of Benson Avenue on Tuesday morning as they continue their investigation into the crash. Benson Avenue was scheduled to be closed from 16th Street to Mountain Shadow Drive from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., according to a police statement released Tuesday morning.
