RIALTO >> Police are looking for the driver suspected of fleeing the scene of a fatal hit-and-run crash Tuesday night.
Investigators Wednesday identified Jesus Orozco, 20, of Fontana as the driver of the 2001 silver Honda Accord that struck a Rialto woman who later died at a hospital.
Shortly before 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, police received a call about a car that struck a woman on Cedar Avenue south of Third Street, according to a police news release.
Officers found the woman, Rosalind Pitchford, 53, lying in the roadway.
She was taken to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton where she later died, according to a San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office news release.
Police officials said in a written statement they believe Pitchford was bending down to pick something up from the roadway when she was struck by the Honda driving southbound on Cedar Avenue.
Orozco never stopped to render aid, police said.
While investigators were on scene, a police cruiser was struck by an oncoming car. The patrol car sat near the outer perimeter of the scene and had damage to its rear driver’s side panel.
A man at the scene said he accidentally struck the patrol car that was blocking Cedar Avenue with its red and blue lights on. He was heading to the gym.
