Rams safety T.J. McDonald has pleaded no contest to one count of wet reckless, resolving his case eight months after he was arrested on suspicion of DUI.
McDonald, 25, had been taken to a police station on May 10 after striking a parked car in Woodland Hills. A Los Angeles City Attorney spokesperson said this Tuesday that McDonald had been suspected of driving under the influence of prescription drugs.
The fourth-year NFL veteran had pleaded not guilty to a DUI on Oct. 12. With an attorney appearing in court on his behalf this Monday, he pleaded no contest to a wet reckless — reckless driving with a notation of alcohol or drug involvement. A second count of driving under the influence was dismissed.
McDonald was sentenced to 36 months of probation, and is required to enroll in both a 30-day live-in drug program and a three-month alcohol and drug education and counseling program. He was also ordered to perform 200 hours of community service, but was given 16 hours of credit for his time spent in custody.
McDonald must pay a $1,914 fine, as well as restitution to the owner of the car that he struck. The restitution amount will be determined during a hearing on April 10.
A third-round pick out of USC in 2013, McDonald has made 53 career starts for the Rams, including every game of this past season. He is set to enter free agency this offseason.
