Fontana woman to be charged with two felonies in Beaumont hit-and-run

A Fontana woman will be charged Thursday with felony hit and run and felony driving under the influence of prescription drugs in connection with the Dec. 23 collision that left a pedestrian in grave condition, Beaumont police said.

Deborah Marie Salazar, 55, has not yet been arrested, Detective Sgt. Robert Galletta said. But he suggested that police won’t have any trouble picking her up.

Salazar, according to Galletta, was driving north on California Avenue when she struck the pedestrian, who was walking north along the edge of the roadway.

“We believe that Salazar was operating her vehicle on the roadway and because of her impairment failed to see the pedestrian walking on the roadway edge,” he said. The collision propelled the victim onto the railroad tracks, but Salazar fled, Galletta said. The victim, a woman, was found about 5:10 p.m.

After a witness identified the vehicle, police found the registered owner. That person had sold the car to Galletta, who had not yet registered the car in her name.

Salazar has convictions in San Bernardino County for failing to wear a seat belt, driving on a suspended or revoked driver’s license, driving without a license, petty theft and being drunk in public, according to Superior Court records.
