SAN BERNARDINO >> Investigators released surveillance images of a man they believe struck and dragged a 3-year-old boy through a San Bernardino strip mall parking lot over the weekend.
The photos show a man wearing a blue baseball hat and a long-sleeved orange shirt with writing on the back. The suspect vehicle was described as a maroon or burgundy late 1990s model Ford F-150 with boarded side-walls, and it was carrying landscaping equipment, witnesses told deputies at the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s station in Highland.
The boy was crossing a parking lot of a strip mall near the intersection of Base Line and Del Rosa Avenue at around 5:20 p.m. Saturday when he was hit by the truck, according to sheriff’s reports. The boy became lodged under the wheel of the vehicle and dragged. The unidentified driver then backed over the boy and drove away, officials said.
The boy was taken to a hospital with critical but non-life-threatening injuries, according to sheriffs’ officials.
Deputies have a partial license plate number, which was not released, and they are investigating several leads, according to the release.
