SANTA CRUZ >> A Rancho Cucamonga man turned himself in at a Santa Cruz County jail Monday two days after the death of a victim of a hit-and-run collision he said he caused Oct. 30, according to a Santa Cruz police news release.

Jesus Covarrubias, 26, “indicated he was responsible for the fatal hit-and-run collision,” the news release states. Yet “when detectives interviewed Covarrubias, he became uncooperative and refused to give a statement.”

Alexandria Arceneaux, a 20-year-old UC Santa Cruz student, died Saturday of critical injuries suffered in the collision that happened 1:55 a.m. Oct. 30, the news release states. Covarrubias was not injured in the collision.

Police arrested Covarrubias on suspicion of felony hit and run and booked him into Santa Cruz County Jail on $10,000 bail, the news release states.

Police also recovered the silver 2011 Honda CRV involved in the crash, the news release states. Investigators are scouring it for additional evidence.
