PHELAN >> The man killed in a head-on crash over the weekend in Phelan has been identified as 26-year-old Mario Bahena, of Fontana, according to the San Bernardino County Coroner’s website.
Just after 5 a.m. Sunday, Bahena was driving a 1997 Mercedes–Benz east on Highway 138 approaching Centola Road when, for unknown reasons, his vehicle drifted into the path of an oncoming 2006 Chevrolet, according to California Highway Patrol reports.
Emergency personnel pronounced Bahena dead at the scene. A 25-year-old woman riding in the Mercedes-Benz as well as the driver of the Chevrolet were hospitalized with moderate injuries, officials said.
