CHINO HILLS >> A two-vehicle collision in front of Ruben S. Ayala High School Thursday afternoon injured three people, including two pedestrians identified as students, according to a fire official.
One of the two students, a male, suffered major injuries and was flown to a trauma center, said Massiel Ladron De Guevara, spokesperson for Chino Valley Fire District.
The other student, a female, had minor injuries “and was signed out to parents,” she said.
De Guevara was unable to provide details on how the two students were injured. She said two vehicles were involved in a collision; one car caught fire and one car struck a pole. The driver of the car that caught fire, a male, was flown to a hospital with major injuries including burns, while the driver of the other car was uninjured, she said.
De Guevara did not know the gender of the uninjured driver, or which car struck the pole.
The collision was reported at 2:22 p.m. according to an email from San Bernardino County sheriff’s Deputy Olivia Bozek.
Bozek said a suspect is in custody, but had no additional details.
The sheriff’s Major Accident Investigation Team was still investigating the collision as of 5 p.m.
