RIALTO >> A transient woman was killed Monday morning at Pepper and Rialto avenues in an apparent hit-and-run crash, authorities said.
Police received a call from a good Samaritan truck driver who reported a victim, who was later identified as Crystal Nicole Golden, down in the middle of the street at the intersection, according to a news release.
The intersection was closed to traffic as San Bernardino police investigated the crash. The fatal incident took place in Rialto, but falls under the San Bernardino police’s jurisdiction.
Golden’s body was covered in a light blue sheet, and a shopping cart with items strewn around was knocked over next to her.
The fatal crash took place about 6:30 a.m., said San Bernardino police Sgt. Jeff DeMoet.
When officers arrived, they found the 33-year-old’s lifeless body in the roadway, he said.
Bystanders complained that motorists drive on Pepper Avenue as if it’s a freeway. Some said it was a matter of time before someone was hurt.
Among the handful of people who gathered to watch the investigation and find out the identify of the victim was Brandon Taylor Haines, who said he was Golden’s brother.
Haines said his sister moved back to California from Arkansas after her last child was born about two years ago.
Authorities ask anyone who may have more information, to contact the San Bernardino Police Department at 909-384-5742.
