A high-speed freeway crash killed a San Bernardino woman along the border between Jurupa Valley and Eastvale, California Highway Patrol officials say.
The victim died at the scene of the 12:53 p.m. wreck Tuesday, Sept. 27, along the southbound lanes of Interstate 15 at Mission Boulevard.
For reasons that weren’t immediately determined, her 2016 Nissan Maxima was speeding in the center divider and plunged down an embankment onto Mission Boulevard, Sgt. Steve Licon said in a written statement. Firefighters had to cut the woman from the wreckage.
Two tow trucks were dispatched to the incident, one to stabilize the wrecked vehicle while the other truck was assigned to haul it away.
Although the wreckage was off the freeway, emergency personnel closed the southbound fast lane. By 2 p.m., the resulting backup stretched roughly three miles to Interstate 10, according to the Caltrans Quickmap website.
