RANCHO CUCAMONGA >> A Hesperia woman was killed Thursday after a large dump truck collided with her compact car, according to a California Highway Patrol news release.
Faith Michaela Hawkins, whose age was not provided in the news release, was traveling south on the 15 Freeway near the 210 interchange about 11:13 a.m. Thursday when Jose Luis Castillo of Bloomington, the dump truck driver, abruptly changed lanes and hit her car, the news release states. The impact caused her car to spin and roll several times, ejecting her onto the freeway.
Hawkins was brought to San Antonio Community Hospital where she was pronounced dead, the news release states.
A Sigalert was issued at 11:19 a.m. Traffic was backed up more than a mile between the 210 Freeway interchange and Summit Avenue exit. Motorists could be seen stepping out of their vehicles while traffic was at a complete standstill.
The collision also caused traffic to back up on the northbound lanes up to the Base Line exit.
The CHP is investigating the collision.
