CHINO HILLS >> Sheriff’s investigators Saturday afternoon apprehended a Chino Hills man who they say intentionally rammed into a person’s car at least three times sending it down an embankment early Saturday.
Authorities with the San Bernardino County sheriff’s Chino Hills Station say Eric Fernandez, 31, had been previously involved in a fight with the victim before Fernandez allegedly ran the victim’s car off the road causing it to crash off the 71 Freeway near Pine Avenue. The victim suffered major injuries, officials state in a news release.
Shortly after 6:30 a.m., deputies were called to the crash site and found the victim’s vehicle about 60 feet down the embankment, according to the release. Investigators believe the car rolled at least twice.
Deputies learned Fernandez began chasing the victim in his black Chevrolet Tahoe and rammed the rear of the victim’s vehicle twice at approximately 50 miles per hour, officials said. As the victim attempted to get onto the 71 Freeway, Fernandez reportedly rammed the rear of the victim’s vehicle a third time sending it through a metal guard rail.
Fernandez then allegedly drove off. Deputies later found him at his home and took him into custody.
