MONTCLAIR >> Two men were arrested Sunday after police say they led officers on a pursuit in a stolen vehicle from Montclair to Pomona and crashed it into another vehicle.
A Montclair police officer tried to stop the vehicle, which was confirmed to be stolen, near the intersection of Ramona Avenue and Holt Boulevard about 1:11 p.m., according to a news release from the Montclair Police Department.
The vehicle took off and a pursuit spilled into Pomona.
Officers lost sight of the vehicle until it ran a red light and crashed into another vehicle near the intersection of San Antonio Avenue and Philadelphia Street, the release says.
The alleged driver of the vehicle, 32-year-old Ivan Avalos, got out and ran away, but was then arrested. The passenger, 26-year-old Herminio Menjivar, had a fractured wrist and a head laceration from the crash. He was taken to USC Medical Trauma Center.
Avalos was taken to the Pomona Valley Community Hospital as a precautionary measure, the release says.
The occupants of the vehicle the suspects crashed into checked themselves into a local hospital as a precaution.
Both men were identified as gang members and had active arrest warrants, the release says.
Avalos was arrested on suspicion of a slew of charges, including evading a police officer causing serious bodily injury, possession of a stolen vehicle and hit-and-run causing injury or death, according to jail records. He was taken to the West Valley Detention Center, where bail is set at $250,000.
