The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department arrested a Rancho Cucamonga man who they believe struck and killed a bicyclist with his vehicle in Loma Linda as he was attempting to flee from deputies.

San Bernardino County sheriff’s officials say they went to a home in Loma Linda where Eric Tofoya was staying shortly before 11 a.m. Friday to serve an arrest warrant for him in a domestic violence case.

They say that’s when a man they believe was Tofoya got into a vehicle and took off.

The man did not yield for officers, instead traveling westbound on Barton Road. Deputies say it was during this time that the man hit a person on a bicycle and kept going.

At some point, the man crashed into a van, got out of the car and bailed on foot. Deputies searched the area and were able to find Tofoya hiding in a shed.

The bicyclist was taken to the hospital and ultimately died, according to officials.

Tofoya is expected to be booked at West Valley Detention Center on suspicion of murder and the active warrant, according to the release.
