RIALTO >> A truck collided with a tree in Rialto early Sunday morning, burst into flames and left its single passenger, a San Bernardino resident, dead, police said.

The collision involved a four-door pickup truck and a large tree along the west dirt easement of Pepper Avenue, north of Mariposa Street, police said.

As officers arrived on the scene, they called in fire department personnel to extinguish the flames, which “fully engulfed” the truck, a police report said.

The name of the adult male driver was not immediately released.

It is unknown if alcohol played a factor the accident, police said.

Police are requesting that members of the public who saw this crash, or have any information about it, call the Traffic Division at 909-820-2550.
