ONTARIO >> An off-duty LAPD motorcycle officer on his way to work was injured Wednesday in a crash on the westbound 60 Freeway in Ontario.

The officer was airlifted to a hospital following the crash, which occurred about 11:15 a.m. at Mountain Avenue.

The extent of his injuries was unclear — police did not release a condition report — but he is expected to survive, Los Angeles Police Department Officer Tony Im said.

The officer, whose name was not released, was riding a police motorcycle when the accident occurred, Im said.

According to the California Highway Patrol’s preliminary investigation, the officer was riding in the carpool lane when traffic began slowing and an SUV in the adjacent No. 1 lane swerved to the left and collided with the motorcycle.

The other motorist was taken to a hospital for examination of a possible injury..
