Suspected drunk driver trying to elude Pomona police crashes into tree

POMONA >> A suspected drunk driver that didn’t stop for a Pomona police officer early Saturday eventually lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a palm tree, according to a police news release.

Police tried to pull the driver over at 1:10 a.m. in the area of Garey Avenue, south of Lexington Avenue, the Pomona Police Department reported.

“The driver did not stop and sped off,” according to the release

The driver was severely injured, while the passenger was moderately injured, the news release states.

The crash, which happened shortly after 1:10 a.m., is under investigation. Anyone with information about it is asked to call Pomona police at 909-620-2081 or the anonymous tip line at 800-222-8477.

The news release does not state whether or where the victims were hospitalized, or if anyone was arrested.
