CHINO HILLS >> A speed contest late Saturday between two teens from Chino ended with their arrests and minor injuries for a passenger when one of the cars collided with trees.
Juan Nungaray, 18, and a 17-year-old male, both of Chino, apparently lined up on Soquel Canyon Parkway near Pipeline Avenue in Chino Hills and hit the gas, according to a San Bernardino County sheriff’s news release.
After both cars reportedly reached speeds twice that of the posted limit, the younger driver lost control of his car and hit several trees before coming to a stop on a sidewalk. A passenger in his car suffered minor injuries, the news release states.
Sheriff’s deputies impounded both cars and arrested both drivers on suspicion of engaging in a speed contest.
