RANCHO CUCAMONGA >> A truck driver allegedly tried to run over a Rancho Cucamonga Police Department employee who was writing him a parking ticket Tuesday morning.
At about 9:15 a.m., a safety service specialist spotted an illegally parked semi-truck at Sixth Street and Richmond Place and attempted to write the driver, later identified as Marc Basti of Jerome, Idaho, a ticket, according to a department news release.
Basti allegedly drove off, aiming his truck at the employee, who ordered him to stop several times, officials said. Basti reportedly did not stop, hitting the employee in the chest with the truck’s front grill.
Deputies caught up to Basti not far from the Sixth-Richmond intersection, the release says. After an investigation, he was arrested on the suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
Basti was booked into the West Valley Detention Center with bail set at $50,000.
The employee was not injured.
