CORONA >> An off-duty motorcycle deputy who lives in Upland died from injuries he suffered in a traffic accident involving another motorcyclist and a car on Friday afternoon, police said.
Philip Borja, 25 — a Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy — was driving a motorcycle on Hidden Valley Parkway about 4:25 p.m. when he and another motorcyclist struck a car driven by a 22-year-old Corona woman, said Corona police Sgt. Paul Mercado.
Mercado said the motorcyclists were traveling eastbound on Hidden Valley Parkway when a car pulling out of the Stater Bros. parking lot forced Borja and 24-year-old Zachariah Macias, of Norco, the other motorcyclist, into the westbound lanes. Both motorcycles ended up colliding with the Volkswagen Beetle driven by the Corona woman, and it burst into flames.
Borja was treated at the scene and taken to Riverside Community Hospital, where he died, Mercado said.
The woman did not require medical attention, said Mercado. Macias was treated at the hospital and released.
Hidden Valley Parkway was closed for about seven hours between Via Blairo and Garland Way. The Corona Police Department Twitter account declared the road open at 12:05 a.m. Saturday, May 28.
Nobody has been cited or arrested, said Mercado, but investigators are reviewing details of the accident.
