Estate of Scott Weiland sued after late rocker allegedly shot up tour bus

LOS ANGELES — A man who says he leased a tour bus to Scott Weiland in 2013 filed a creditor’s claim against the late singer’s estate, alleging he shot up the inside of the vehicle with a BB gun and cut electrical wires, causing $50,000 in damage.

Daniel Smagacz of Springfield, Tennessee, also is seeking an additional $100,000 in punitive damages.

The claim filed last week in Los Angeles Superior Court states that Weiland’s company, Flaming Music Production Inc., reached an agreement with Smagacz in July 2013 to lease the bus for 20 days. The former Stone Temple Pilots frontman personally signed the contract, which stated he was responsible for any loss or damage caused by him or any of his guests, the claim states.

Weiland was “grossly negligent and acted with intentional and willful misconduct by damaging the coach tour bus … by shooting at, and attempting to shoot through, the interior walls of the coach with a BB gun,” the claim alleges.

Weiland also cut wires connected to electronic devices in the bus, according to the claim.

Weiland was found dead on his tour bus of a drug overdose on Dec. 3 in Bloomington, Minnesota, before he and his band, the Wildabouts, were scheduled to perform. He was 48.
