FONTANA >> A 55-year-old Pomona man was killed in a hit-and-run along the 210 Freeway early Sunday, as he exited a car to inspect a flat tire.

The vehicle he was in blew its tire about 3:45 a.m. in the eastbound lanes west of the Cherry Avenue exit, according to a California Highway Patrol news release. The vehicle was pulled off to the left shoulder.

As the man in the front passenger seat exited on the side of passing traffic, a white, mid-sized SUV veered to the left, hitting the man and throwing him forward.

The crash killed him and the suspect vehicle fled. It was last seen exiting on Cherry Avenue, the release said.

The deceased man’s name has not been released.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the CHP’s Rancho Cucamonga office at 909-980-3994.
