FONTANA >> Officers are investigating a hit-and-run after a man was found lying on the ground in unincorporated Fontana Wednesday morning, California Highway Patrol officials said.
The victim was conscious and moving when officials arrived on scene just before 5:30 a.m., said Sgt. Eric Lee, CHP spokesman. He claimed a big rig struck him as he crossed the street.
The man was transported to the hospital for minor injuries, including a broken finger, scratches and superficial burns, Lee said.
A tractor trailer driver called 911 and reported that two vehicles struck a person walking along the eastbound lanes of San Bernardino Avenue, according to initial reports. The driver told dispatchers the vehicles did not stop and that he was using his large vehicle to block traffic to prevent anyone else from striking the injured person. However, it wasn’t clear of the tractor trailer driver had seen the actual incident, officials said.
The incident is under investigation.
