SAN BERNARDINO >> A woman is in critical condition after the vehicle she was in was hit Sunday morning by a suspected drunk driver, police say.
Rialto resident Jose Silva, 25, told police that he had been drinking before he hit the vehicle on 5th Street near Western Avenue at 9:40 a.m., said police Sgt. Vicki Cervantes.
His Mazda, traveling westbound on 5th, hit an Oldsmobile driven by a 58-year-old Colton resident who was turning left into a private driveway, Cervantes said. Silva saw the Oldsmobile turn in front of him, but was unable to avoid the crash, she said in a news release.
Silva’s car hit the passenger side of the Oldsmobile, which then slid westbound and hit a parked Toyota Corolla.
Silva, who had minor injuries, was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence Sunday just before noon.
Police continued to investigate Sunday afternoon, with several blocks along 5th Street blocked off.
The name of the woman, who remained in critical condition at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center Sunday afternoon, is being withheld by police.
