ONTARIO >> A 35-year-old Kansas City man was arrested Saturday morning after the reportedly stolen car he was in crashed on a 10 Freeway westbound offramp during a brief pursuit with police.

An Ontario police officer spotted a Nissan Maximum, which was reported stolen out of Las Vegas, shortly before noon on Inland Empire Boulevard.

As the officer followed the vehicle – waiting for additional units to arrive – the suspect got onto the 10 Freeway at Milliken Avenue heading westbound.

The suspect pulled over onto the shoulder for about 30 seconds and then “he punched it and took off,” said Lt. Kevin Devey with the Ontario Police Department.

The pursuit ended when the male suspect crashed while exiting the Haven Avenue offramp, he said.

The occupants, a male driver and female passenger, complained of some minor injuries, Devey said. The female was released.

The male was arrested on suspicion of auto theft, possession of a stolen vehicle and evading a police officer.
