IDYLLWILD >> Authorities Saturday released the name of a man killed after he was thrown from his pickup truck in a Friday morning crash near Idyllwild.
Everett Mitchell, 80, of Pomona, died at the scene of the crash at 9:20 a.m. Friday, on state Route 243, near Round Robin Drive.
California Highway Patrol officer Darren Meyer said Mitchell’s 2005 Ford Ranger spun out and overturned on the right shoulder of the highway.
“The man over-corrected by turning the steering wheel to the left,” Meyer said. “The vehicle began to spin out of control and drove off the west road edge, where it overturned.”
Mitchell was not wearing a seatbelt, Meyer said.
Riverside County and Idyllwild city firefighters attended to the crash, but Mitchell succumbed to his injuries at 9:53 a.m.
According to Meyer, alcohol, drugs and fatigue have not been ruled out as contributing factors to the crash.
