FONTANA >> Police arrested 32 people for driving under the influence during the two-week holiday season ending in early January, officials said.
The effort was part of the ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over’ DUI enforcement campaign from Dec. 19 through Jan. 3, according to a Fontana Police Department news release.
“The Fontana Police Department has zero tolerance for anyone driving under the influence,” said spokesperson Martha Guzman-Hurtado in a written statement. “If you drink and drive in Fontana, you will be caught and arrested.”
Drunk drivers were responsible for 13 crashes from Dec. 19 to Jan. 3, police officials said. Two crashes involved injuries, eight were non-injury, two were hit-and-run crashes with injuries and one was a hit-and-run with no injuries.
People who are caught drinking and driving could face jail time, fines, loss of driver’s license, towing fees and other DUI expenses, totaling $10,000 on average, police officials said.
Funding for the holiday DUI enforcement campaign was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, police officials said.
