Apple Maps now has Los Angeles County transit bus and rail data

LOS ANGELES – Metro announced today that the Los Angeles County transit agency’s bus and rail data is available on Apple’s Maps application that comes installed on all new Apple devices, including phones, tablets and desktop computers.

The app gives Apple users the ability to view Metro schedules and service alerts. It also allows users to plan trips that involve walking, bicycling and transit, including step-by-step directions to the nearest stations and the estimated travel times.

“With more Metro riders using mobile devices and applications than ever before, it’s important we continue to forge partnerships with technology companies like Apple,” Metro Chief Executive Phil Washington said.

The majority of visitors to Metro’s website — metro.net — view it on mobile devices, with Apple devices accounting for 36 percent of that mobile traffic, Metro said.

The Apple agreement follows similar Metro partnerships with Google and Waze, the transit agency said.
