JURUPA VALLEY >> A 27-year-old woman killed trying to cross lanes of the 60 Freeway following her survival of a separate crash was identified today by the county coroner’s office.
Debra Belton of Romoland was identified as the woman who crashed into a storm drain off the freeway Friday night and was killed trying to walk away from the scene.
At about 11 p.m. Friday, Belton was driving on the westbound 60 Freeway connector to the southbound 15 Freeway, when for unknown reasons her car went off the road and down an embankment north of the freeway, CHP Officer Travis Monks said.
Belton survived the crash, exited her car and climbed onto the No. 1 lane of the westbound 60 Freeway, where Benjamin Shuler, 65, of Mira Loma, was driving his 2010 Chevy Equinox at 60 mph, Monks said.
Belton crossed the freeway directly into the path of Shuler’s car and was killed.
Both Belton’s initial crash and the subsequent fatal crash were under investigation.
Anyone with information regarding either crash was asked to contact the Riverside CHP office at (951) 637-8000.
