Loma Linda residents killed in San Diego County crash identified

Coroners officials identified the Loma Linda and Grand Terrace residents who died Sunday night in a crash on the 15 Freeway in Escondido.

Ris Kartini Panjaitan, 65; Dameria Pakpahan, 75; Irani Afrida Pasaribu, 40 and Timothy Silalahi, 9, died after the 2003 Toyota Sequoia they were traveling in crashed with a 2014 Chevrolet Sonic, sending the SUV over the embankment and into a tree before rolling multiple times, according to officials.

The crash happened on the eastbound lanes of Highway 78 near Nordahl Road in Escondido shortly after 10:30 p.m., officials said.

A 19-year-old woman, who CHP officers believe was the driver of the SUV, and two other women were transported to the hospital with moderate injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle, a 25-year-old man driving a 2014 Chevrolet Sonic, was detained and taken back to the Escondido CHP station on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter. He was later released pending the outcome of the investigation, officials said.
